Spring Home Maintenance Tips
The harshness of winter can wreak havoc upon our homes – damage we can’t see until the snow has melted and spring has come. Spring is the perfect time to check the exterior of your home for any winter damage and ensure your home’s interior is maintained and ready for spring rain and warmer temps.
Follow these spring home maintenance tips and your home should be in good shape for the coming months:
· Check for roof and chimney damage. When the roof is dry, inspect it for missing, curling or broken shingles. If you’ve got a flat roof, look out for pooling water – it may indicate low areas and faulty drainage. Also be sure to check your fireplace flues and have them closed for warmer weather.
· Clean and inspect your lawn mower. You’ll be using it again in no time!
· Remove storm windows & doors. Replace your storm windows with screens and prepare to let the spring air in to freshen your home.
· Have an air conditioner contractor inspect your system. They will be checking electrical safeties, the condensate drain, calibrating the thermostat and lubricating fans and motors.
· Repair cracked or uneven driveways. If you see any damage, have your driveway sealed to help prevent guests from tripping or falling and prevent weeds from growing between the cracks.
· Inspect for weakened trees and branches. The snow and ice of winter may have caused damage to your trees. If you see any broken branches, have them cut down so they won’t fall and cause possible damage to your home in the future.
· Paint! Spring is a great time to give the interior of your home a fresh look with a new coat of paint; the temperature is still mild enough that you can keep your windows open to help ventilate your home while painting. And spring just begs for a new, fresh look in your home.
