Metro Milwaukee’s Weekend Festival Preview: August 24-26

This weekend you can participate in a jalapeno-eating contest or witness death-defying aerial acrobatics…. Or both! Check out what’s happening in metro Milwaukee this weekend in our Weekend Festival Guide:


Mexican Fiesta (Milwaukee)

Spice up your life with authentic Mexican food, rousing mariachi bands, the foot-stomping rhythms and colorful swirl of traditional dancers, and the handmade treasures of the marketplace. You can do more than just be a spectator at the fiesta by participating in the handful of contests taking place, including dancing competitions, cultural costume contests and even a jalapeno-eating contests, truly not for the faint of heart.

Stop by the Cultural Village, which showcases beautiful Mexican arts, crafts and textiles. Here, you’ll also find the Tequila Expo, where you’ll be able to see and learn about beautiful bottled tequilas and celebrate Mexico’s most famous liquor.

And of course, what would a Mexican Fiesta be without great music and delicious food? Pablo Montero, Tejano Boys, Belanova, as well as several other internationally-known artists will be performing. And local restaurants El Campesino, Tres Hermanos and more offer their delectable cuisine throughout the entire festival.

Wings over Waukesha Air Show (Waukesha)

A variety of nationally-renowned aerobatics acts, wing walkers, sky divers and a host on contemporary and vintage aircraft will take to the skies this weekend in Waukesha. In addition to the air show, you can also learn about flying, aircraft and actually meet some of the pilots! What’s more, you can also have the chance to ride in an airplane or helicopter. Celebrating 100 years of flight in Waukesha, the festival will also have plenty of food, beverages and aviation-related merchandise for sale throughout the grounds.

Where: Waukesha County Airport – 2525 Aviation Dr.

When: Saturday 9am-9pm, Sunday 9am-6pm

How Much: $10 for adults, $5 ages 10-17, kids 9 and under are free!
