Moving Tips for a Smooth Transition

Whether it’s a bright new beginning or an emotional departure, failing to plan ahead and properly prepare can make moving difficult. Whether you’re relocating down the block or across the country, taking the right steps in advance can save time and energy when packing up your life and moving.

A new home is exciting, but the process of moving can be quite stressful. However, planning and preparation can significantly decrease your level of stress. It is possible to make the experience less hectic and more organized. The goal is to get happily settled into your new home as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Consider these pieces of advice as you prepare for your big day:

  • Get organized. First, scour closets and storage spaces and organize items in three piles; sell, donate or move. Next, create room lists, for your future home, assigning the items you decide to keep to specific rooms. Finally, take an inventory of each room in your current home consisting of all of the items that need to be packed.
  • Notify all authorities. Give the post office, utility service providers, friends and family early warnings of your new address. The process of disconnecting and then restarting services can be time consuming, so generate a comprehensive checklist early on. (more…)

Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity: ReStore Super Sale!

Here at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, we are so proud of the work we do for our local charities, including the Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity. The organization, itself, is so amazing in the work that it does to provide housing for people in need, and we couldn’t be happier to be affiliated with them. But did you know that in addition to volunteering and donating to Habitat, you can also do your part to help the organization by shopping at their ReStore?

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore recycles overstocked, discounted, new and used building materials donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. The items are sold at a fraction of the retail price to the public. The ReStore helps fund Habitat’s mission of building affordable homes and is staffed largely by volunteers.

Pretty cool, right? They’ve got a huge variety of items in the store and at such a huge discount – perfect for anyone looking to renovate, build up or just redecorate their home. And this Saturday, April 23rd, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore is celebrating Earth Day with a HUGE sale on all items – everything in the store will be an additional 50% off! (more…)
