Bob Dylan once sang “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” Well, lately, we in Southeast Wisconsin don’t need a weatherman to tell us the conditions outside are less than favorable. We’ve reached the time of year where we don’t think twice about grabbing a jacket before leaving the house, and our once-free, sandal-adorned toes are back to being concealed by boots. Yes, fall is in full effect here in Southeast Wisconsin, so whether you’re driving about lake country or taking a hike to Holy Hill, make sure you get out in time to see the beautiful fall foliage before the leaves disappear and snow covers everything in sight.
Over much of Southeast Wisconsin, it’s just about peak color time. Washington County is already at its peak, while Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties are all expected to peak in about a week. Not far behind are Racine and Jefferson counties, which will peak in two weeks.
There’s not much better than going for an autumn drive or hike and taking in the sights of gorgeous red, orange, yellow and gold Wisconsin foliage. For more information about peak coloring all over the state (including recent photos), click here.
